PLUS: More Mission News:
As you all know, the annual (now semi-annual) chicken barbecue is a great traditional fundraiser for our church that goes back decades. Although some things have changed since it started, one thing that remains the same is the good food and fellowship that it brings. Well now we can also add mission outreach.
Typically, every year members are provided a supply of tickets to sell to family and friends to raise funds for the church. A few years ago, the mission committee began asking folks if they would pay for & donate a ticket or two with the hope that we could provide a delicious chicken dinner to residents at the Good Samaritan Shelter. Initially we were able to provide 25-30 dinners! The gentlemen there were touched & grateful for the meals!
The following year we asked folks again and were able to secure enough donations to not only provide meals to The Good Samaritan folks, but also to St. Mary’s Shelter. What a glorious blessing this was!
This year we wondered how much more we could do if we asked ALL of our congregation for support. . . .and the response was overwhelming! The mission committee is overjoyed to report that with your help and support at our June 2019 barbecue, they coordinated and delivered 71 of our delicious chicken dinners to various places throughout our community: The Good Samaritan Shelter, St. Mary’s Shelter, Ann’s House, our St. Vincent parsonage tenants, and the Veterans Association Center in Spring City. We hope to increase this number in the Fall and to support even more local facilities!
Way to go St. Vincent UCC!! What a great way to reach out to our community while supporting our church.
Please consider donating a few of your tickets in the Fall!
